FEATURE REQUEST - Live Edit Macro control via MIDI and/or DMX

Post by leesinthemix »

Hey,

The Live Edit Macros are a welcome addition to the W1, but I think you guys could have been bolder with this.
Let's allow these functions to be mapped to DMX or MIDI channels so we can use faders or pots to control these parameters.

Faders and pots (knobs) are so much smoother than using endless rotary encoders as you get the step jumping effect, which isn't great.

Really enjoying the new firmware, thank you team!

I'd love to push this feature request now, but perhaps a bit more context would be ideal.

I'd love to be able to control certain values of one or multiple fixtures, for example Zoom or Gobo Rotation ON THE FLY using DMX faders or MIDI.

One thought I had, was that to get this working without drastically impacting the size of the firmware.

Give us the ability to map just 20 values across all fixtures. We can turn this on/off within the Live Edit screen and once 20 have been turned on, the pad colours turn on and then it locks, meaning you can't add anymore unless manually removing them in the Live Edit page.

We can then head to the Live Edit Macro section of the Mapping page to assign these values to a MIDI channel or DMX fader.

You can control many, if not all, of these functions using a DMX fader controller and going into the DMX VALUES window to assign them to faders. I'm still exploring all the possibilities myself. Using a small fader controller like a ADJ SD24, you can for example assign your gobo rotation to fader 1 and zoom to fader 2 for one or all of your fixtures. You're directly accessing the zoom or gobo DMX channel, not using Live Edit.
