Intelligent Preset. let's WIZARD it!!

Post by Level Up »

Hi everyone,

I want to start by saying that I LOVE (I can't think of a better word) the auto preset generation system.

However, after the initial excitement, I find it quite limiting and not very customizable.

Hence, my proposal.

Since the Wolfmix has a touchscreen display, a world of possibilities opens up.

What I find INTERESTING would be to have a sort of "WIZARD" launch automatically when the preset generation system is started. This wizard would ask the user for a few parameters that would then be used by the software to create the presets.

Here’s an example:

Step 1: TAP on the preset creator icon on screen.

Step 1: On-screen, Wolfmix asks:
"Step 1: Which color do you want to use?"
And on the touchscreen, I see all the available colors to select from.

Button: NEXT

Step 2:
On-screen, Wolfmix asks:
"Which groups should the color effects be applied to?"

And I select the groups directly on the screen.

Buttons: NEXT and BACK
(Since it's Step 2, the BACK button allows me to return to Step 1 in case I made a mistake)

Step 3:
On-screen, Wolfmix asks:
"Which groups should the movement effects be applied to?"

And again, I select the groups on the screen.

Buttons: NEXT and BACK

Step 4:
On-screen, Wolfmix asks:
"How many presets do you want to create?"

And it offers a fixed number of presets (e.g., 8–16–32)

Buttons: NEXT and BACK

Step 5:
On-screen, Wolfmix asks:
"On which page should the presets be saved?"

And it shows buttons with all available page numbers.
Possibly with color indicators, like:

A green “1” means the page is empty

A yellow “1” means the page has some presets but still has free slots

A red “1” means the page is full

Buttons: CREATE PRESETS and BACK

If the selected page is green, the presets are automatically saved in the first available slots.
If it's yellow or red, the system asks if I want to overwrite (to avoid accidental errors).
If I press YES, it overwrites.
If I press NO, it goes back to Step 5.

This way, the user will be able to create USEFUL and personalized presets based on their specific needs and preferences, making the experience with this tool truly immersive and customized.

Definitely looking forward to more options and flexibility with these features! I know they've said they're coming, but I hope at least a bit more gets added sooner rather than later.

Too much processing power needed for on device AI like this unfortunately.

You'd need an APU, which the W1 just doesn't have and for good reason, because it would make the device more around the £1k mark.

Hi, it seems like you don't know what you're talking about. It's obvious that the current preset creation system doesn't use any form of "intelligence" because it applies motion effects when it even has only fixtures like rgbw strobe that CANT physically move.

What you tried to say is totally misleading. WIZARD It's VERY SIMPLY and it's about saving variables chosen by user and then applying them at the time of creation. Nothing more, nothing less. AI has NOTHING to do with it.

The current preset creation system applies presets ALREADY INSTALLED on the wolfmix by applying them and at most ADAPTING them to the fixtures. You can see it right away because if you delete the presets and try to recreate them.. very often you'll see that they are always the same and even have the same name.

This post is very interesting and objective. I think Wolfmix should be honest with us users. Something is happening; the hardware isn't working well enough for the software.

I think we'll be fine when they just add some more options for how these presets are created. Which I believe they've already stated is coming.

I also believe (as Simon has mentioned) some big things are coming next year for Wolfmix. My guess would be something that takes up some more real estate than our current wolfmix. Maybe some faders? Who knows. Possibly even more powerful? But keeping parity over all of the devices might be easier on the programming side.

The 2.0 update is pretty wonderful! I just want some more options in the intelligent preset department because I'll be honest, it fills a big gap for me on the DJ side. For bigger production stuff I can create what I need that's specific when I need to.

I never said it did have AI, just pointing out that what you're describing (despite being fairly basic) would still require an APU because you're talking about a framework which requires a lot more variables than the unit's CPU can handle.

They already had to re-write the entire firmware so that version 2.0 could fit onto the unit. You also need redundancy to be able to store fixture profiles.
What do you think adding the above will do to the internal storage?
