Feedback FW 2.0.4

Post by 86bibo »

Hello,

I tested on the weekend intensively the FW 2.0.4 and it is significant improved in comparison with FW 2.0.3. Props to the dev team.

I figured out some items, which are not working for my setup:

DMX channals are not sent
e.g. for my Eurolite STP-14 LED Bar (I have 4 of them), there are some DMX Channels which are not sent by the Wolfmix. So on Fixture 1, the 6th spot LED is not used and for Fixture 3, the last blider segment. I checked it also in the DMX monitor in Easyview and the corresponding channels are always 0. When I set the channel in Live-Edits, they are working and also the LEDs lights up if this fixture is selected in the fixture menu. I switched also the DMX addresses, but in the Wolfmix these channels (I figured out at least 4 channels in 2 Universes) are not correctly controlled by the Wolfmix programs.
I created this project in FW 2.0.3. Is this also related to this corrupt files mentioned in the FW notes or can it be another bug?
If I create a completely new project, I doesn't seem to appear (just tested with one fixture), but I don't want to recreate my complete setup, before I know that this item is solved. I also tried other projects with the same result, but all were created on the same basic FW2.0.3 project.

wrong page when leaving color setting menu
when adapting a color in the static color menu (e.g. the RGBWAUV), the color overview page is not displayed correctly. The group where the color has been adapted stays in the right page, but all other groups show another color page. This is no serious issue, as you can easily get back to the right view by changing the pages, just want to mention that.

no visualisation of the groups in the FX menus
I mentioned this point before at FW2.0.3, but on the weekend I really got annoyed from the fact, that you don't know in the menus, if I apply it currently for group A-D or E-H. I know that the screens are already quite crowded, but the more I use the 2.0, I figured out that this is a serious issue. I can imagine, if you want to adapt something live, that is a big risk of screwing up my show. Due to a lot of fixtures and split profiles I utilize all 8 groups.

add phase to fixures in case the effect is limited to the fixture itself
I hope I haven't set it wrong, but when setting an color FX and limit it to the fixture, the phase don't have an effect to the behaviour inbetween the fixtures. So if I put there a phase, then I would expect, that the second fixtures applies this delayed to the first fixture, like it works for the MHs in Move FX. In the color FX this doesn't happen to my LED Bars. So they are running "perfectly" in sync. I hope this is not related to my first item, otherwise it would be great if this could be adapted (don't know if it is intended or a bug).

Feature request for FX effects:

Alternative color FX
Especially with doubling the FX, I feel more and more restricted with the color effects, as they are in the end "just" 3. To have 3 rainbow effects does not make much sense for me, as I have to adapt them anyway for each preset and this saves some time for preparation, but limits the overall possibilities of the device.
I definitelly would like to have Knightrider effect for the color FX as well. I already love to have it in the beat FX, but it would be more variable to have it also in the color FX, especially as they will not behave 100% identical and you can also always combine color and beat FX to create new effects.
Additionally I would like to have the possibility to have more than one spot in the Sparkle FX. I can increase the size of the effect, but then I have several spots next to each other and not distributed like sparkles. I want to create and effect shown in this like at 19 sec.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOCiKDUIaOM
I programmed this in Daslight quite easy as you can define there the number of sparkles. I would be great to add this as well to the wolfmix or create an additional FX, which can enable that. Especially if you have larger Pixelbars with more than 10 segments/spots, the sparkling effect is not very pleasant to use.

Range for application of the FX
The possibility to limit the effect to a group or the fixture itself is besides doubling of the effects the by far biggest improvement in FW2.0. Thank you for that already. I will use it intensive for by bars and sticks. Maybe I just haven't figured out how, but i could not find a setting, that I can run a chaser or rainbow just for the whole fixtures. So I love that you can apply the effect just for the fixture and it is limited to it. But I would additionally like to have the possibility to apply a chaser or rainbow along all the fixtures, where the individual fixture is set as one color. E.g. to run a red Chaser from fixture one to fixture 10, without running through the fixture itself (so fixture 1 lights up, than fixture 2 whereas fixture 1 is dark, etc.). You can try to adapt this with the size, but then the chaser still runs through the individual fixtures. May it is possible to add this as a 4th option to the applied section or by adding as an additional FX (as I mentioned before).

Move FX for special effect fixtures
I already love the possibility to use positions for the sequencer. Even when you don't add new Move FX, the possibilities increased tremendously with the updated positions menu and the possibility to use them in the sequencer. This brought me to the idea, that this would be also very helpfull for a huge variety of effect fixtures which have a not constant rotation movement channel (like derbys, mushrooms, Diamonds, ...). Would it be possible to use also live Edits for the sequencer? I know, that this requires a lot of discipline with programming and assigning the Live edits, as they are not limited to movements, but I would also enable the possibility in general to create sequences in a preset by utilizing that option. In that case it even would fit better in the Beat FX instead of the Move FX.

So, it got a pretty long post, but I wanted to explain it as best as possible. If you need further explantion, please let me know.
For the feature requests: I know that you are try to get FW2.0 as stable as possible first. But at least for me, these are no complete new features, it is and adaption/improvement of the things which are already in, so I might thought it can be realized with reasonable effort during the FW optimization (maybe except for the last one) and would add a significant benefit to the device.

@all: If I'm the only one, who would love to have this extended features, please let me know as well. Maybe I'm totally on the wrong track or just the only one, who is looking for that.

In addition to this I would say make the move or beam fx saves without overwriting you main preset that they just change the fx

Hello, thanks for your detailed report! I'll check out all of these potential bugs and get them reported to be fixed!

If possible could you please create a ticket and upload your project file with the DMX channels issue? You can create a ticket at this link:

Maybe I’ll do the same with some feedback an improvements for this update!

Mainly the one mention in one of these topics about the fx presets would be a huge Improvement cause I now think they are a bit useless for busking live if they change the live edit presets with them.
