Of course firmware 2.0 has a lot of fundamental code changes, which means that it is possible there will be some issues at the start with project conversion- so we will implore people to create multiple backups of their project files before updating (this is generally good practice anyway, but for sure will be best for peace of mind when 2.0 is released!).
Hi Will,
I think also a copy of the current v1.x firmware would be a good idea, just in case you want/need to return to the "old" firmware for reasons.
Question: will you also upgrade WTOOLS accordingly to make this step back possible (include a menu entry somewhere), or do you want people to make their own backup of the firmware, drilling into .../wlinkData/temp and copy "firmware" folder to somewhere else?
When FW 2.0 is released- it will be available through WTOOLS in the 'Beta Firmware' update section. FW 1.2.5 will of course remain in the 'Official Firmware' option for the duration of the Beta, so you can upgrade/downgrade as needed.
It is highly likely that FW 2.x will be in Beta for a long period of time, due to the nature of the changes made in this update. I would imagine we wouldn't see it become Official until version 2.1 is released (there would of course likely be more versions in between those two releases - 2.0.1, 2.0.2, etc. as we make any required fixes/adjustments). It will be more of a gradual transition, rather than a sudden change that's forced onto all users instantly.
that makes sense to keep the current v1.2.x as "official" and give v2.0 a "beta" tag (available to download in debug mode), so it always can be reversed to a working and stable version.
Just chiming in to offer a quick note of appreciation and gratitude for the Wolfmix team for your continued work on this update. Thank you for being thorough and diligent in your efforts to ensure that v2.0 is properly polished before pushing it to beta. It's never easy completely refactoring code like this. I'm looking forward to trying it out it once it's ready to be brought into the daylight.
Beta 2.0 won't be available until summer! I saw an explanatory demo at the Phocea Tour in Paris last Thursday and it will indeed be really great, it will change a lot of things and this is only the beginning...
I wish the development team good luck and a big thank you in advance for all this work!
