First Observations

First Observations

Hi guys.

Just briefly I’ve only owned the Wolfmix for a week and only used it on some beam bars but I have some observations about how it could be better.

Also, if I’m saying something which is already possible or I’m doing it wrong then I apologise ;-)

1) Strobe button.
When doing a slow strobe the time the light stays on stays on for longer than when the speed is fast.
I think this should be controllable at least. When I compare it to my Avolites, a slow strobe would still only flick the lights on for a very short period of time. I thikn it's a more pro look this way.

2) It would be nice to be able to hold a group button and then press strobe and only strobe those lights in that group.

3) Be able to assign the strobe button to a fixture, group or preset.

4) The wolf mix button should be more random.

5) The sparkle effect is not random. You can see the pattern repeat.

6) The colours should include or be able to include UV.

7) The presets could be able to show image (which we can draw) instead of or as well as text.

8) The beam modes could be programable using some sort of generator?

9) Preset page could also scroll line by line as well as page by page.

10) Why does [Colour] affect all groups? Can it be directed at only 1 or some groups?
It should be possible that when you press colours from the left hand side buttons that they can focus on a group rather than all groups and lights or all groups and lights.

11) Exclude or focus on groups when saving presets.
Presets should be able to focus on just one or more groups instead of the whole ensemble.
So it would be nice if some lights were doing what they were doing when I press Preset 1, and then when I press preset 2, the other lights start doing what they are to do but the preset 1 lights continue to do what they were doing.

12) Should be able to enter bpm the manually to get fine tuning or exact bpm.

13) The Fade word on presets seems like it should be fade in. Because 'Fade' in beam mode indicates fade out.

14) It would be nice if the touch screen was bigger and the buttons smaller. Equal sizes. woul dbe perfect.

Ok, again if any of these are alreayd posible then soryr, I've only set up 2 groups using the same lights.
Great piece of kit though. Can't wait to use it properly.

Hi Graham,

Let me at least answer a few of your points, the rest will be open to discussion. 😉

1) Strobe button: This should be connected to the question if your device has a separate strobe channel or not. If so, Wolfmix will use that one to trigger that intregrated strobe feature. If the fixture doesn’t have a built in strobe feature, a virtual strobe will be created by flashing the RGB or dimmer channels. Can you tell if you're using a strobe channel or not?

2) It's not able that way, but in the group settings, you can determine which groups shall react to a flash button (like strobe) and which don't. Please have a look in there and set it up accordingly. (Details in the manual, page 45)

3) Same as above, very helpful.

4) Can you specify this, please?

5) True, I will report if that can be done in another way.

6) Special colours are possible. Just go into any of the colour pickers (by SHIFT + any colour button), and there check the second button on the top-right; here you can also use white, amber and UV (if your fixture supports that, of course). => Manual page 25 for more info.

7) That's technically not possible, sorry.

8) There is a Beam FX Sequencer that you can use for exact that - page 23. 😊

9) Sorry, but it's not designed that way in general. No scrolling except in the settings.

10) Well, the COLOR FX are assigned to all groups that will be selected, but the static colours are set up column by column, so you can choose colours for group A, other ones for group B and so on.

11) Wolfmix is designed in a way that every preset save nearly all currently used settings. A preset contains the following information:
  • The exact settings of the three effect engines (FX)
  • Which FX engines are active for which device groups
  • All static settings (color, position, gobo)
  • All active Live Edits and also the settings of the three Live Edit encoders *
  • All dimmer values of the individual groups *
(* This can also be deactivated)

12) Good point, and this is already in discussion.

13) Another good point, will note that down. (But at least you figured out what it means.) 😉

14) Well... Not achievable ATM, but I think most people are very happy with its current size.

Thanks for all the input!
