Scenario question for 4 PARs, 2 frontlights and a light bar

Post by Marvin042 »

Hi all,
I'm considering buying a Wolfmix W1 for controlling all of my fixtures using one device only.
Currently I have to control these fixtures (arsenal will be growing soon :-)):
- 4 Cameo Root PAR 6 cans
- 2 Varytec VP-1 DMX BiLight panels as frontlight (in 4-ch-mode warmwhite/coldwhite/strobe/dim master is available)
- 1 Stairville Led Bar 240/8 RGB DMX as illumation for a roll-up
So far so good - now for my question:
I understood the Wolfmix is concepted to work with groups, containing the same devices each.
I would then put the 4 Cameo PARs in Group A, the Varytec panels in group B and the LED Bar into group C.
With that configuration, is it possible to set up scenes as follows?
1. Static scene: Two of the PARs should be red and two blue, 50% dimmed. The 2 Varytecs should be set to 50% dimmed warmwhite. The LED bar should be set to 100% purple.
2. Color changing scene: All 4 PARs should slowly change the color, fading over from one to another. Guess the "Rainbow"-effect will be sufficiant for this. The two Varytecs should remain on a fix setting, e.g. 50% warmwhite and 75% coldwhite. The LED bar should also slowly change the color, fading into the next color. Would be nice with exactly the same speed as set for the PARs.
Best would be then, if the scenes could be toggled using a MIDI-footswitch but that's just a nice-to-have.
3. Color changing scene: Same as above but with fast changing of colors

Any experiences with scenarios similar to mine?

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your post! I'd be happy to try and help you out a bit here, this all sounds like something that the Wolfmix should be able to handle.

One small caveat I will mention is that Wolfmix does not support WarmWhite and ColdWhite channel types. By default, these will just be off and they wont respond to the Colour FX or static Colour screen. There are however 2 potential solutions for you:

- You can control the fixture using Live Edits. This allows you to set some buttons which will trigger static value(s) on your fixtures. So you could have 1 button for WW 50% and CW75%, then another button for WW 100% and CW 0%, another for WW 0% and CW 100%, etc. These Live Edits can all be saved into a preset so that when you trigger the Preset, the Live Edit will automatically trigger.

- We can edit the profile for you so that instead of WarmWhite- the channel is 'Amber', and instead of ColdWhite- the channel is 'White'. This will allow you to use some more automated control as well as the Live Edits (as mentioned above). For example, you could now trigger different static colours from the static Colour screen, or even use the Colour FX to jump between different WW/CW temperatures.

__________

To address your questions about specific presets-

1) Static scene:

Group A - In static Colour screen, set the 'Alternating' colour option and activate Red and Blue colours. Set the group Dimmer to 50% on the Home screen.
Group B - Use either the Live Edits or the static Colour screen to set the Varytec's colour temperature (as described above). Set the group Dimmer to 50% on the Home screen.
Group C - Set the static Colour screen to purple/UV.

2) Colour changing scene:

Group A - Activate the Colour FX and set the speed, colours, and other parameters as desired.
Group B - Use either the Live Edits or the static Colour screen to set the Varytec's colour temperature (as described above).
Group C - Activate the Colour FX on this group.

The Colour FX will take all fixtures in Group A and C into account, so that they both run at the same speed and change colours in the order you have set.

3) Fast colour changing scene:

Same as above, but increase speed and/or change any other parameter in the Colour FX.

__________

Each of the above can be saved into a separate preset (as well as many more options- up to 100 presets per project), and each preset can be assigned to a specific MIDI trigger to be recalled easily by MIDI footswitch pedal.

Hope this helps! In the meantime, I would highly recommend checking out our Mini-Guide series on YouTube- as this covers everything you might need to know getting to learn the Wolfmix! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDWNqOJ ... bI&pp=iAQB

Kind regards,
Will

Sounds perfect - Thanks a lot so far! Seems like I'm gona be a new customer soon :-).
Would be perfect to add the Varytecs to the overall fixture library, attched there are the DMX setup options for them. Good idea to use "Amber" for Warmwhite and "White" for Coldwhite btw. :-)

We actually already do have a profile for this particular fixture already in our global fixture library under the name "VP-1 DMX Video BiLight Panel". As mentioned, we can create a custom version of this any time with the WW/CW channels swapped out for Amber/White - this can be uploaded directly to your Cloud account to add to the Wolfmix through WTOOLS.

If you would like us to do this- you can send a direct message with the email address used for your Cloud account, and I'd be happy to send the file over to you!

Kind regards,
Will
