Moving Heads and the Wolfmix question

Post by swangletang »

Hi,

this forum has been REALLY great so far so!

I'm sorry for my ignorance as I am brand new to DMX lighting. I'm currently using several fixtures to light up a local band, and we travel around with all this gear.

How do I ensure my moving heads are set in the correct placement every time we are in a new place?

for example, I do all my programming in real life with the fixtures at a studio. Then we pack up, go to a venue, and load in. How can I make sure my moving heads will look exactly how they did in the studio? Do i have to reconfigure them all? Is there a factory reset or something I should use?

My heads are Rockville Rock Beams (x2).

Thanks!

As the MoveFX effects are all work within the same "limits", you generally only "adjust" the "moving ranges" of your Heads from venue to venue, which is how much to the "left" and how much to the "right" and up (ceiling) and define the (front) dancefloor, using the Pan & Tilt values.
This is done in Fixture Setup, when selecting your Moving Heads, you get a small "crosshair" symbol at the top of the screen. Activate this, you can now set your "fixture boundaries" ..or Fixture Limits ..according to the venue requirements. Adjust the Min/Max Pan and Min/Max Tilt values of your heads and all your effects will operate within these limits then.
The "full frame" (by default) represents the full movement of the Heads, which is 180⁰ Tilt (Up & Down) and 540⁰ Pan (left/right turn). In most cases the ideal "limit" will be just ¼ (within 1 quadrants) from the whole range. That reflects a nice "left-to-right" and "top-to-bottom" range, without pointing to the "back".
