Level Meter/ VU Meter / Music Level - Effect?

Post by clavis »

Dear Guys,

I had rent a wolfmix, try it out and now I have to decide to go for it and buy one or not. As I tried it, I could not realize a Music Level Effect like a VU-Meter on a Mixer with my LED Bars or a bunch of PARs. I play around with the Chaser in Color FX but thats not I wanted. Is there any Workaround to built an Effect like this?

Example:

You have 3 "sync" options in all 3 FX areas - push the Speed encoder to toggle between the 3 options:

1. fixed speed (stop watch symbol) in % - Here is NO BPM Speed shown. It is a fixed Speed adjusted with the Speed encoder.

2. BPM TAP speed (BPM+Note symbol). You tap the speed and can subdivide into ½ notes or ¼ notes or full notes etc. Here the BPM display is working!

3. Mic or Line In (Mic symbol). This setting is using either the built in microphone OR a 3.5mm audio jack Line level audio input when connected from the DJ booth or similar. Here, again, is no BPM display shown. The Audio (Mic or Line In) is purely a "pulse" recognition of the audio signal which is being transferred to the CPU to execute the next "step" at the next "pulse". (you want to adjust the mic/Line In level in the Wolfmix/WMX1 setting for best wave -pulse- recognition) - There is no BPM showing in this mode.

For "better results" you may also want to reduce FADE time or set to 0%. Also PHASE (0%) and the ORDER (<) can play a role in your visual output.

Thank you for this tipps you gave me, i will try them because I decided to buy a wolfmix. Actually I got the rented one here at home to play with it and I must say it is not perfect, but its the perfects thing you handle while Djing is the main job. And the fact I used Light Rider for two years gives the Rest to this decision.

cheers

This is an visualization, which is currently not supported by the wolfmix.
For the Wolfmix itself, there are 2 obsticals:

1.) You cannot run any "moving" effects limited to one fixture. The current logic of the Wolfmix is, that any color moving effects run through the whole fixtures of that group. So if you have a chaser, it starts at fixture one, then moves to fixture two,.... until it starts again, when it passed the last one. You can set it it starts from the center or from which side, but not that you want to repeat it on each fixture individual. This might be changes with the big update, but this is just a guess. You would have 3 options as woraround
- give all fixtures the same DMX address, but then all of them behave in all programs identical, which will become boring
- put every fixture in a singe group, but then you run out of groups quite soon

2.) the VU meter effect is not implemented (like in most DMX SWs).
This has some technical dificulties, as you want not only to react to the BPM but also to the intensity of the sound, and therefore you need a microphone and have to adjust the sensitivity, which makes it not really plug&play. Maybe there is a small chance, that a comparable function (maybe just react randomly to the BPM) will be added in the big update, as Nicolaudi carefully said, that also new effects will be launched. but I would not count on that, to be honest.

If your fixtures itself offer this function, it can be a workaround to activate it via Live Edit.
