Any thoughts on how I can best create an end-to-end or split-in/split-out sequence to fire 24 smoke jets in a fast ‘beam’ effect?
This is for an interesting project in a large rugby stadium.
There are two types of fixture, six of one type at either end and 12 of the others along the touchline.
How to trigger a ripple of 24 smoke jets?
Re: How to trigger a ripple of 24 smoke jets?
Hey John! Really interested to hear more about this project, I have an initial idea that might be helpful and if all goes well we'd love to see some footage of the effect in action!
My idea is relating to a feature the Wolfmix can use that by default is always empty until manually assigned. This feature is named 'Effect' and can be used in the Beam FX engine. The 'Effect' function can be assigned to any channel in the DMX Values > Settings (Beam Editor) window.
Do you know the exact name and brand of the smoke jet fixtures you are using? Perhaps if I know this, I can provide some more specific information on how this can be set up.

Re: How to trigger a ripple of 24 smoke jets?
Thanks… I’ve currently managed it (a bit clumsy) by doing a live edit for pairs of fixtures splitting out from the half-way line then turning each into a preset and playing the page… now trying to work out the way to have the play mode set to once only rather than looping!
The fixtures are H-20V TOPC02 JET by DJ POWER and Chauvet 220VGEYSERP7

PS the DJPOWER lights are all on 16Ch mode right now, but I’m getting the 15Ch patch shortly which doesn’t have the annoying 25 second light shut-off feature meaning you have to turn the dimmer back to zero each time.

Hi John,
In fact- there appears to be an issue (or maybe a misunderstanding on my part!) about the 'Effect' feature. That being said, it is possible to use all sorts of other channel types, such as Iris or Zoom instead.
In the custom fixture files I have attached here, you can use the Beam FX engine to control the Smoke channel (ch1) on your fixtures. Simply patch the fixture in, go to the Beam FX engine, press in the 3rd encoder and select 'Zoom' then set up your effect as usual!
If you want this as a one-shot effect, I would recommend setting Preset 1 as an 'empty'/'idle' Preset, then save your Beam FX / 'trigger' Preset to slot 2. Simply then set a Hold time for your required effect length, and enable the 'Flash' option on the Preset. Now, when you trigger this Preset- it will play for the Hold time, then jump back to your idle Preset.
Hope this helps! Like I say, we'd love to see some footage of this in action with the Wolfmix controlling the effect. If you have anything you can share, please do feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]

Hey. Modify the profile and change the "smoke" button for a dimmer channel. Then you will be able to set beamFX with the jets.
