⭐ Wolfmix Got Talent ⭐

Post by Wolfman_Malone »

Hey everyone!

I've been thinking it could be fun to do a little friendly community challenge here on this forum:

⭐ Wolfmix Got Talent ⭐

Basically the challenge is this: you choose a song to live busk with your Wolfmix. Record it on camera and share the video here. Then the community will vote on who their favourite is. The winner will... have bragging rights? Or maybe I will come up with a prize later on? Note sure yet lol. Like I said, this is just for fun!

Video submissions should show your Wolfmix unit actively being used, and also the light show.

If you have 2 cameras, record both your Wolfmix and also the light show (no editing needed, I will edit it for you if you can't do it yourself). If you only have 1 camera, record the light show in the background with the Wolfmix in the foreground.

This competition will be about the act of lighting busking, not just the output itself!

I'm still deciding whether to allow DMX visualizers.... I think it'd be more fun to see the actual lights in use, so I'm leaning more towards that. What do you all think?

This is just for fun, not a serious competition... just a way to show off your skills, creativity, and maybe inspire others in the community!

---------------------------------------

What to include in your post:

- Your video
- The name of the song (and artist)
- (Optional) any notes about your set

Submissions OPEN: Saturday, June 28th @ 12AM EDT

Submissions CLOSE: Saturday, July 6th @ 12AM EDT

Videos showcasing & Voting: July 7th

Winner ANNOUNCED: July 8th here on this forum!

---------------------------------------

(Before this competition begins, feel free to share any ideas that might make this better or more fun!)

Submissions are open!!

I guess I'll start it off with my own video, however since I started this competition I should probably be immediately disqualified from receiving votes & winning. So, my submission is completely just for fun. I am late by a day because I got busy but I finally recorded it!

The song is "Knock Yourself Out XD" by Porter Robinson.

- Wolfmix WMX1 mk II (using current beta firmware)
- Akai APC Mini mk II

Sorry for my small messy room, and my round ceiling light! I don't have any actual space for my lights yet. Also, I digitally overlayed on my curtains what would normally be a projected video on the wall in real life that plays along with the song.

I made lots of mistakes in this but it was still fun!

Looks good, i'd love to see more videos like this. How do you overlay the video of your hands doing the work?

If more users posted videos like this we could probably all learn from one another.

What are you using the faders for? Is that just for for the dimmer?

I have so many questions after watching your video lol

Thanks for sharing your video!! It looks really cool with the fog! I wish I had a smoke machine lol.

100% agreed, that's one of the reasons I thought this would be a fun thing to do in this Wolfmix community. There are (not many, sadly...) videos on youtube of people playing with their Wolfmixes and showing their hands using it as well as the result. This post was also inspired by that type of video as well.

Exactly, I am playing with the faders which control the dimmer on each group. The fader on the far left is the master dimmer. The 4 dimmers on the far right are for group A/B/C/D.

A= front wash
B= 4 par lights aimed at each corner of the room
C= 6 tube lights
D= wall wash bars

In this song I think I used 6 base presets that I made. The rest is me triggering effects and "live edits"* with my Akai pads. I have each row on the wolfmix dedicated for a certain color or color palette. Then it goes:

1st pad= slow pink with twinkle effect
2nd pad= faster pink with medium laser effect
3rd pad= rapid strobe pink (with solid wash on group A and D if needed)
4rd pad= crazy pink (with a simple solid but quickly changing color on group A)

* By "live edits" I mean that I made live edits which I assigned to a preset WITHOUT color/move/beam effects and I have them set as FLASH. So I'm basically triggering a flash live edit with my MIDI pads (this has its own limitations but it's good enough for my purposes)

Then the rest of the time I'm playing with my lights like a piano with my midi pads (like the split second before the chorus where the tube lights do a kind of chase), as well as a sort of twinkle effect I made via live edits which you can see I used as the final 4 notes of the song as it ends. Each "frame" of the twinkle animation is its' own separate live edit which I assigned to a (flash) preset, which I then assigned to a MIDI pad.

I also have two midi buttons (the two glowing red ones) near the faders which do "previous preset" and "next preset". I mostly use the pads closest to the faders so that I can do both at the same time. The bottom row is strobe, blinder, blackout, ADJ/wolfmix flash, and a white blinder flash for each fixture group (done with live edits. the "REAL" blinder is assigned to the wall wash lights and it's really fast so I can use it as a snare). Then finally the top pads are assigned to preset pages... it's just faster to snap to a preset page than to sue the encoder dial on the Wolfmix imo.

OH also I forgot about the "go freaking crazy" preset I use at 2:15 which is fun to trigger as a flash effect (it fades out in 1 second because the preset it reverts back to has a fade-IN time of 1s)
