Help - I Need a Light Group ONLY Impacted by BLACKOUT Button

Post by Bitzan »

WARNING - I am new to Wolfmix and may be overlooking the obvious!

I have a set of par lights that are positioned downstage facing the performers. The desire is for these lights to ALWAYS be white with no effects. This leads one to say set the group and lock it. HOWEVER I need these lights to go dark when the BLACKOUT button is pressed.

Any thoughts on how to accomplish this?

- The only thought I have is rather cumbersome - I can modify every auto generated preset on Pages 1 and 2 so that a group (H for example) is always white when the preset is triggered. Now that I have updated 40 presets I cannot ever add lights and hit "Generate Presets" because I would have to modify all 40 over again. There has to be a simpler way.

First think that I can think of is put the lights in a group for example H and than exclude them from every flash button except blackout. If I am understanding you correctly this will work!

Good luck!

Kevin, thank you for taking the time to respond. The problem I have doing that is that each "auto generated" preset creates a color, fx, and beam setting for Group H. Is there a way to stop it from doing that?

First of all, the current auto generate presets have no possibility to be customized. You always get the same presets and it included all groups, which are set in the setup. Locking the group afterwards don't help, as it all prevents the fixture to participate in the blackout.
To set it fixed with a Live Edit is also not possible, because the Live edit has a higher priority than the blackout and it would still not react to it.

So from my perspective you have the following options:
- change the presets manually after the auto reset creation one by one
- don't use the auto preset creation and create your own presets
- create the auto presets and then add your "static" fixtures after that. Of course the group has to be empty before and not used by other fixtures
--> I haven't tested this yet, but I think it should work
- depending on your used fixture, a live edit might be an option as well, if you if you have a dedicated shutter channel which contains and open as well as closed setting. Then you can create a live edit with the color and the dimmer of the desired fixtures and as the blackout closed the shutter channel if this is available, this might be a smart solution. But then you have to check, if also some of the autopresets are utilizing the shutter channel. Here I'm not sure, but it would be worth to test it.
- If you have a fitting shutter channel, but also the auto presets use the shutter, than it can be an option to put the fixtures in the "other" group and create the before described live edit. The only disadvantage of that approach is, that you only influence these fixtures by Live edits.

Anyhow you should deactivate all other Wolf FX like "blinder", "strobe", "wolfmix" for that group in the settings.

Go and Buy an Elation SDC 12. run a separate DMX cable from this little controller to your pars. using the SDC 12, mix the RGB (+) pars to give you the white and intensity you need and simply slide down the dimmer at the same time you hit blackout. That's the simpler way if you can't figure out how to do it on the WMX1. Cost is about $120.00 US Funds. or maybe by hooking up this SDC12 thru Wlink, you can control the pars separately. SO that would mean $50.00 US funds for the Wlink and $120.00 US funds for the Controller. Plus a 5 pin DMX cable, Male at both ends, to hook up the SDC12. That's all I've got. The really smart guys will know best.

Hello,

i think you can best set it up with a "Live Edit" Button on Toggle or Push and set the Dimmer for the par`s on 0%.

This can be help.

Live Edit overrides other Parameters.

Hi guys!

Yes, doing this with LIVE EDIT is a great idea and shoud work. You could also do this with a "FLASH" PRESET that's specified for BLINDER. Here's how to:

1) Activate the blinder with TOGGLE (it will stay on)*
2) Create a LIVE EDIT for the pars as described above by no-brothers
3) Activate that LIVE EDIT
4) Deactivate all COLORS, POSITIONS and GOBOS
5) Save this as a PRESET (with BLINDER and the LIVE EDIT on), and also deactivate all FX in this screen:

6) Also, set that PRESET as a FLASH button (flash symbol top right corner)
7) Set the hold time to 00:00.04

If you now hit that button, it should exactly do what you wanted to achieve, and all FX will keep on running.

* 8) After saving that PRESET, you can put the blinder back to "FLASH".

=> Please note that this is only possible with the new BETA firmware FW2.0 (due to the FX deactivation)
=> Please also note that this might not work perfectly with PRESETs which include any fade times... 😬

Much success! 🙋‍♂️
