EasyView is cooked this update

Post by Redlights5744 »

I updated to 2.0.3 to test out the new software update fully expecting bugs but not this. Ran a dummy project in EasyView and it was bad. Froze the board multiple times and the visualizer as well.

It would crash even just sitting idle. So not a big problem, just revert back to 1.2.6 for the mean time until it gets fixed. Well went back to start working on a project this weekend and the Wolfmix will not communicate with EasyView. It will for 10 or 30 seconds then freeze up. I delete fixtures and add new ones to the show file and controller file to no avail. I can not get the controller to actually control fixtures anymore. If I close the show file with out saving and reopen, I can get it to connect again but it looses connection less than a minute of opening.

The controller is recognizes EasyView when launching from Wtools, but not much after that. I’ve already reverted back to 1.2.6, restarted my pc. This new update cooked all ability to pre program shows. Literally didn’t have this problem yesterday or every day this week until today.

I'm kinda disappointed in easy view all together and kinda mad I spent the $100 for it.

Many of my fixtures just looking NOTHING like they should in easy view. For example, freedom sticks - they shoot out a beam of light, looks absolutely nothing like they do IRL. Also, the ADJ Stinger II - can't even program it in easyview because it just looks like crap. Same with my Rockville LED Panels - you can't see the specifics of the fixture so programming it on easyview is basically impossible.

I am now just using easy view to manage my project and assign mappings. It's absolutely my biggest disappointed with this stuff so far.

Easyview has always been really bad

Use L8 CE or Capture if you want a decent visualiser experience that resembles what you're expect in person.

I think if you take the time to know it it’s a pretty powerfull program. At first I thought the same but now I think it works just fine!

Swang has a valid point about Freedom Sticks and some of the other fixtures not being realistic representations of what the lights will actually look like though.

Yeah sometimes you need some imagination but it’s also possible to edit the fixture to get a more realistic view of what it would be… tou can access this by the right menu and click the right button on the fixture maybe it helps.

How are you gettin the visualizer to not crash? Before the 2.0 update it ran perfect. Now I’ve redownloaded everything and downgraded the controller with the issues still persisting. Now I’m having more issues than ever with my Wolfmix. This last update did something to the operating system that can’t be undone.

There is no way I am the only person experiencing this?

Hello all!

There's a few things going on in this thread, I'm going to try and address as much as possible below and hopefully it won't get too confusing to read:

1) EasyView issues in FW 2.0.3:

Re: the initial issue reported from 'RedLights5744':

It's a very strange one, since the Wolfmix and EasyView don't actually directly communicate with each other. The Wolfmix sends DMX data to WTOOLS, which then relays that data to EasyView... So I would be keen to hear more about your setup and experience to see what can be done! Please can you confirm:

- Does this problem persist on FW 2.0.4?
- Do you notice any issues with WTOOLS whilst this is happening?
- Are you connecting your Wolfmix to your computer through a USB hub or adapter? If so, does a direct connection improve this?
- What computer OS version are you using?
- What version of WTOOLS are you running?

2) Fixture realism in EasyView:

Re: points from 'swangletang':

The current EasyView is a fairly simple program, and it definitely is strongest with your standard moving head, pars, scanners, etc. More complex fixtures, such as multi-beam fixtures or effect bars can be trickier to visualise- but with some workarounds, it's possible to get something much more usable as a reference tool. Our tech support team are always happy to help with this at help.wolfmix.com, however I will also do my best to provide some help for you here too!

a) Freedom Sticks:

- I have attached an edited version of this fixture profile which should appear visually much better out of the gate, however once patched into EasyView you can make further adjustments to suit your needs by right clicking the fixture, then select 'Profile settings...'. Here, I would recommend paying most attention to the 'Power (Lux)' (reducing this can make the beam much less intense), and also the 'Beam angle' (this should help with the spread of the beam).

See below for steps on adding this file to EasyView.

b) Stinger II:

- This one is much more complex, since it is essentially multiple combined fixtures in one. The best way to handle this is to split the profile into 3 separate elements, then patch them in to EasyView individually, but to the same address. Again, I have attached 3 separate fixtures for you to patch in here- so long as they are all patched to the same address- it should work fine and produce much better results.

c) Rockville LED Panels:

- Do you have an exact name for these fixtures so that I can check this for you?

Adding these .ssl2 files to EasyView:

- Download the attached .ssl2 files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kyBsY4 ... sp=sharing
- Open your computer's file directory
- Find the EasyViewConnect folder, then open the ScanLibrary folder
- Find the desired brand folder, then open it
- Drag & drop the attached .ssl2 file into the brand folder
- Restart EasyView

Hope this is all helpful!
